AMC Mastery

The AMC Rewards Strategy as Much as Mathematics

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿซ

Scoring Strategy & Problem Triage

  • AMC 10/12 scoring rewards strategy: 6 points per correct answer, 1.5 for blanks, 0 for wrong โ€” knowing when not to answer matters
  • 25 questions in 75 minutes with sharply increasing difficulty โ€” we teach problem triage
  • Targeted practice on problems 15โ€“25, where Honor Roll and AIME qualification are decided
๐Ÿ“Š

Combinatorics & Number Theory

  • The AMC leans heavily on combinatorics, number theory, and clever algebra โ€” topics schools barely touch
  • Systematic frameworks for counting, divisibility, and geometric insight
  • Progressive difficulty from AMC 8 fundamentals through AMC 12 and AIME-level problems
๐Ÿ“ฑ

The AIME Qualification Path

  • Clear roadmap from AMC 8 โ†’ AMC 10/12 โ†’ AIME โ†’ USAMO
  • Coaching targeted at AIME qualification cutoffs and Distinguished Honor Roll
  • Competition calendar planning so students peak at the right time each November
WHERE STUDENTS STRUGGLE MOST

What Most AMC Students Struggle With โ€” and How We Help

These are the challenges AMC families tell us about most. Our coaches are trained to address every one of them.

The problem

Which AMC to Take, and When

Families aren't sure whether to sit AMC 8, 10, or 12 โ€” or how the AIME pathway works

How we fix it

We assess your child's level and build a competition roadmap โ€” which AMC to target, when to attempt AIME qualification, and how to plan the year around the November exams.

The problem

School Math Isn't Enough

AMC problems draw on combinatorics, number theory, and creative techniques schools never teach

How we fix it

Our coaches systematically introduce competition-only topics with progressive problem sets, closing the gap between school math and AMC-level problem solving.

The problem

Time Pressure and Problem Triage

25 problems in 75 minutes โ€” students burn time on early questions and never reach the ones that matter

How we fix it

We drill timed sets with explicit triage strategy: which problems to solve, which to skip, and how AMC scoring rewards a strategic blank over a wrong guess.

The problem

Plateauing Below the Cutoff

Students stall just under Honor Roll or AIME qualification scores

How we fix it

We diagnose exactly which problem types are costing points โ€” usually questions 15โ€“25 โ€” and target those with progressive difficulty until the cutoff falls.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can we schedule a demo class before enrolling?+

Yes. We offer a free demo class and diagnostic assessment so your child can meet their coach, experience competition-style problem solving, and get an honest read on which AMC level to target โ€” before you commit to anything.

Which AMC should my child take โ€” 8, 10, or 12?+

AMC 8 is for students in grade 8 and below, AMC 10 for grades 10 and below, and AMC 12 for grades 12 and below. The right choice depends on your child's current level, not just their grade โ€” our diagnostic identifies where they'll be most competitive, and many strong students sit AMC 10 early to start the AIME pathway sooner.

How does AIME qualification work?+

Top scorers on the AMC 10/12 qualify for the AIME, and exceptional AIME performance leads to USAMO invitation. Our coaching targets the qualification cutoffs directly โ€” with focused practice on the harder problems (typically questions 15โ€“25) that decide who advances.

My child does well in school math but has never done competitions. Is that okay?+

No competition experience is needed. Many of our students start as strong school-math students with no exposure to competition problems. We build from their current level, introducing competition topics like combinatorics and number theory systematically.

When should my child start preparing for the AMC?+

Most students need 6โ€“12 months of structured preparation to compete seriously, depending on their starting level and target. The AMC runs each November, so starting in the winter or spring before gives a full preparation cycle. We build a study plan working back from competition day.

How are coaches matched to students?+

We match your child with a competition-math specialist coach based on their diagnostic results, current level, and target competition. Our AMC coaches have guided students to Distinguished Honor Roll and AIME qualification. If the match isn't right, we'll reassign at no extra cost.
